UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

My neighbors are out of town and asked us to take care of their 5 dogs. The counter clockwise pictures are of Bones, Snoopy, Mocha, Harley (in the same picture), our dog Annie and, to the left, Charlie Brown. I’m surrounded by unconditional love.

I talked to a friend today who had to put his dog down. I watched Annie as she rose on shaky legs. How much more time will we have with her? How will we ever repair our broken hearts that will be cracked when she leaves us?

The answer,of course, is that we never will. Just as we have never repaired the cracks left by Sable (dead since 1991) or Katy (left us in 2007).

We never get over the death of a loved one, human or animal. Why would we want to? As long as they are in our conversation, they live for us. And as long as they live for us, we are surrounded, enveloped, enshrouded, encased and heartened by their love.

“Heartened.” Exactly. Creatures of our hearts. Bless them.
Have a great day,
Larry
